Betting Is Not the Way to Financial Fortune, Bishop David Oyedepo Tells Nigerian Youth

Bishop David Oyedepo, founder of Living Faith Church, has advised Nigerian youths against viewing sports betting and other quick-money ventures as a route to financial success, urging them to focus on patience, discipline and building sustainable opportunities.

Speaking during a recent engagement with young people, Oyedepo cautioned against relying on betting platforms as a solution to financial challenges, stating that genuine wealth creation requires commitment, hard work and long-term vision.

“Bet9ja is not the way to financial fortune,” Oyedepo said, encouraging young Nigerians to avoid shortcuts and invest their energy in developing skills, pursuing meaningful careers and creating value.

According to the cleric, while the journey to success may appear slow, it often produces more lasting results when built on the right principles.

“It may be slow, but it’s sure,” he said, urging young people to remain patient and focused on their personal growth rather than pursuing instant financial gains.

Oyedepo also shared a personal experience to illustrate the importance of patience and gratitude. He recounted how he later honoured the woman who introduced him to Christianity by purchasing a car for her years after that encounter.

“Success is a journey that requires time, consistency and purpose,” he said, adding that meaningful achievements are often the result of persistence and dedication.

The bishop’s remarks come amid ongoing conversations around youth unemployment, financial pressure and the growing popularity of betting platforms among young Nigerians.

He encouraged the younger generation to channel their creativity, talents and ambitions into productive ventures that can create long-term impact for themselves and society.

“Your potential is too valuable to be wasted chasing quick rewards,” Oyedepo added, calling on youths to embrace responsibility, learning and purposeful development.
