The National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB) has reiterated the importance of compliance, responsible gaming and constructive engagement between the regulator and gaming operators ahead of the 2027 license renewal cycle.
Speaking during the Annual Pre-Licensing Stakeholder Engagement with Gaming Operators, NLGRB Board Chairperson, Mr Kenneth Kitariko, emphasized the need for an industry built on compliance, responsibility, transparency and constructive dialogue between the regulator and operators.
Mr Kitariko reminded operators that obtaining and maintaining a gaming license extends beyond an administrative requirement, carrying significant legal, financial and social responsibilities.
He noted that licensed operators are expected to conduct their businesses lawfully and transparently, protect players, safeguard Government revenue and contribute to the integrity and sustainability of the gaming industry.
The Chairperson highlighted three key expectations for operators: full compliance with applicable laws and license conditions; timely, accurate and complete regulatory reporting; and a strong commitment to Responsible Gaming and player protection.
He also reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to maintaining a predictable regulatory environment in which operators have a clear understanding of the standards against which they will be assessed, the information required, applicable timelines and the consequences of non-compliance. In return, operators are expected to consistently fulfill their regulatory, tax and player-protection obligations.
Mr Kitariko further encouraged gaming operators to maintain open and candid engagement with the Board by raising practical compliance challenges, seeking clarification on regulatory requirements, discussing emerging technologies and identifying opportunities to improve regulatory processes without compromising the law or the integrity of regulation.
The NLGRB said the principles of firm regulation, predictable rules and open dialogue will remain central to its engagement with the industry as it works towards a gaming sector that is lawful, responsible, innovative and sustainable.
