The North West Gambling Board (NWGB), in collaboration with the Consumer Affairs Unit, has conducted an educational awareness campaign at Maubane Tribal Hall in the Moses Kotane Local Municipality.
The engagement focused on promoting responsible gambling, raising awareness of the risks associated with gambling, and educating community members about their consumer rights and responsibilities. The session was attended by Kgosi ya Bataung, Tshireletso Sefanyetso, members of the council, and other community representatives.
During the campaign, the NWGB urged residents to gamble responsibly and understand the potential risks of gambling addiction. Community members were encouraged to view gambling as a form of entertainment rather than a means of earning a livelihood or resolving financial difficulties.
The Board also reminded business owners that they must obtain the appropriate gambling license before conducting gambling-related operations.
Residents were further encouraged to report suspected illegal gambling activities to the NWGB. The Board highlighted its self-exclusion programme and support services available to individuals experiencing gambling-related problems.
For assistance or to report illegal gambling activities, members of the public can contact the NWGB via ceo@nwgb.co.za or 018 384 3215. Free counseling and treatment for gambling-related problems are also available through the South African Responsible Gambling Foundation (SARGF) on 0800 006 008.
