The National Lotteries Commission (NLC) is set to officially hand over funding support to Cricket South Africa (CSA) as preparations continue for the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.

The handover is taking place at Western Province Cricket at Newlands in Cape Town, with NLC Board Chairperson Tembinkosi Bonakele, NLC Commissioner Jodi Scholtz and Western Cape MEC for Cultural Affairs and Sport Ricardo Mackenzie expected to attend.

According to the NLC, the funding will support stadium infrastructure upgrades in provinces that will host matches during the tournament. The grant will also contribute to cricket development and legacy projects across all nine provinces of South Africa, extending the impact of the World Cup beyond the tournament itself.

South Africa is among the host countries for the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, alongside Zimbabwe and Namibia. The NLC said the funding forms part of its efforts to support initiatives that contribute to community development and create lasting benefits through sport. Further updates from the handover are expected as the event takes place in Cape Town.
