The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially acknowledged that it received written statements from various football stakeholders in Cameroon.
These statements have led CAF to initiate an investigation into allegations of improper conduct involving Samuel Eto’o,
the president of the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT).
In an official statement released on Wednesday, August 9, CAF declared that it will conduct the investigation in line with its established Statutes and Regulations.
The organization recognized the seriousness of the allegations presented but also emphasized that, as per legal principles,
Eto’o should be considered innocent until an appropriate legal authority proves otherwise.
While the investigation is ongoing, CAF has chosen not to provide any further updates, opting to maintain confidentiality until the proceedings conclude.
CAF will issue public statements regarding the investigation’s outcome once the proceedings are finalized.
Recently, amateur football clubs in Cameroon collectively called for Samuel Eto’o’s resignation.
Their concerns revolve around perceived “serious irregularities” within the management of FECAFOOT.
Several issues raised include alterations to the president’s term, the lack of publication of updated statutes, and Eto’o’s engagement with a sports betting company.
The clubs have questioned the legality of Eto’o’s role as an ambassador for the betting company, suggesting that it might breach both FIFA and FECAFOOT regulations.
According to FIFA’s code of conduct, individuals are strictly prohibited from participating in any form of betting, gambling, lotteries, or similar activities linked to football events or competitions.
