Namibia Horses delivered an outstanding performance at the prestigious Masa Easter Cup held at Samedupi Park in Botswana’s Northwest District, securing multiple top finishes against strong regional competition. The event attracted elite participants from Botswana, Namibia, and South Africa, with Namibia fielding a competitive team of 14 horses representing five racing clubs: Angermund Racing, Burger Racing, Otjinene Supporters Club, Professor Supporters Club, and Okahandja Racing.
Leading the charge for Namibia, Whisper of Angermund Racing claimed a decisive victory in the 1600m thoroughbred race, outperforming Botswana’s After Shock and Silver Sky, who finished second and third respectively. Whisper continued its dominant form by securing another win in the 1200m sprint, further cementing its status as one of the standout performers of the competition.
Okahandja Racing’s Vang En Los also competed strongly in the sprint, finishing fourth. Action Time, representing Burger Racing, delivered an equally impressive showing by winning the 1300m race before going on to secure top honours in the 2000m plate, demonstrating exceptional endurance and consistency.
Burger Racing’s Pee Jay contributed to Namibia’s success with a second-place finish in the 1400m race, which was won by Botswana’s Salamina. Pee Jay also claimed another second-place finish in the main race, coming in behind Botswana’s Western Bypass. In the junior categories, Vas To Crazy of Angermund Racing finished fourth in the 800m thoroughbred race, while Otjinene Supporters Club’s Weerlig Mootu secured fourth place in a competitive 1100m plate.
Speaking after the event, the President of the Namibia Horse Racing Association, Godfried Mootu, commended the team’s performance: “It was not easy, but we managed to get victories in some plates. This is good for the country, and we hope to do better than this next time.” Namibia’s strong showing at the Masa Easter Cup highlights the country’s growing prominence in regional horse racing and reflects the dedication and skill of its racing clubs and athletes.
