The Gambling Authority is pleased to announce its participation in the Hospitality and Tourism Association of Botswana (HATAB) Annual National Conference, held at Maun Lodge in Maun. The conference brought together key stakeholders from across the tourism and hospitality sectors to discuss strategies for sustainable growth, industry collaboration, and economic development.
The event was officially opened by the Minister of Environment and Tourism, Hon. Wynter Boipuso Mmolotsi, who emphasized the importance of strengthening partnerships within the industry to drive Botswana’s tourism agenda forward.
In his keynote address, the Minister highlighted the need for innovation, resilience, and inclusive growth in positioning Botswana as a competitive global destination.
A key highlight of the conference was the participation of the Gambling Authority’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Moruntshi Kemorwale, who contributed to high-level discussions on the relationship between the gambling and hospitality sectors.
Mr. Kemorwale noted that many licensed casinos operate within hotel establishments, making the gambling industry an integral component of the broader tourism ecosystem.
He underscored the Authority’s mandate to ensure a transparent, fair, and well-regulated industry that supports economic growth, enhances investor confidence, and contributes meaningfully to national development. “The effective regulation of the gambling sector is essential not only for consumer protection but also for sustaining investor trust and supporting the tourism value chain,” said Mr. Kemorwale. “Our role is to create an environment where the industry can thrive responsibly while delivering tangible benefits to the economy.”
The Authority’s exhibition stall attracted significant interest from conference delegates, offering insights into its regulatory framework and ongoing initiatives. Visitors engaged with the Authority’s team on issues of responsible gambling, gaining awareness of safe gaming practices and the measures in place to safeguard players. Informational materials and interactive sessions provided a deeper understanding of how regulation supports both consumer protection and industry integrity.
The Authority was further honored by a visit from the Assistant Minister of Trade and Entrepreneurship, Hon. Baratiwa Mathoothe, who also served as a conference presenter. Her engagement at the stall highlighted the importance of cross-sector collaboration in fostering entrepreneurship and investment opportunities within Botswana’s evolving economic landscape.
Through its participation, the Gambling Authority reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with stakeholders in the hospitality and tourism sectors to promote responsible growth, strengthen regulatory standards, and contribute to Botswana’s socio-economic development.
