In an exciting development for Zambian football, Betway Zambia has announced a groundbreaking K10 million annual deal to become the Official Betting Partner of the Zambian Premier League (ZPL).
This significant agreement follows the recent separation of the ZPL from the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ), granting Betway exclusive rights in the MTN Super League as the official betting partner.
Betway’s strong presence in the ZPL is already evident through their sponsorship of two MTN Super League sides, Nkana FC and Green Buffaloes.
FAZ president, Andrew Kamanga, expressed his enthusiasm for this partnership between the ZPL and Betway Zambia.
“Not too long ago, the Football Association of Zambia took the bold step to de-link the premier league from the mother body.
Since the de-linking, FAZ has set out to actualize this progressive step that had been procrastinating for many years.
We pledged to the football community a few years ago that the de-linking of the league was one of our priority areas in revolutionizing the Zambian game,
” Kamanga stated in a speech read on his behalf by vice president Justin Mumba.
“We are happy that the Zambian Premier League has hit the ground running since taking up the commercial side of business.
With what we are witnessing today, we have no doubt that the future of the Zambian game is bright.”
ZPL chairperson Kephas Katongo shared his vision for the league, aiming to create a passive income for clubs through innovative ideas for its growth.
“This partnership will not only focus on sponsoring the league but will also emphasize capacity building, along with monthly player and coach of the month awards.
We urge all the clubs to maintain professionalism in line with the requirements of the Zambian Premier League,” Katongo asserted.
Betway Zambia’s Chief Operations Officer, Trevis Mulenga, pledged the company’s unwavering commitment to developing the game alongside stakeholders such as ZPL and FAZ.
“We will sponsor the MTN Super League and will be known as the official betting partner of the Zambian Super League.
This partnership is an annual investment of up to K10 million. Zambian football has achieved milestones.
We have participated in the AFCON, and we are certainly returning to where we belong. We want to witness more dreams being realized through this partnership.
This collaboration will not only support local football but also empower and help develop football to the next level.
We will work with FAZ to ensure that not only Super League teams but everyone involved in the game benefits from this partnership,” Mulenga emphasized.
The Sports permanent secretary, Kangwa Chileshe, expressed the government’s full support for initiatives promoting the growth of sport in Zambia.
“The New Dawn government fully supports initiatives that promote the growth of sport in Zambia.
We have full confidence that our athletes will achieve new heights of excellence, and our communities will flourish.
May this partnership serve as a beacon of hope and progress for sport in Zambia,” Chileshe declared.
This significant partnership between Betway Zambia and the Zambian Premier League is set to usher in a new era of opportunities and growth for Zambian football, benefiting players, clubs, and fans alike.
