Cameroon Reverses Online Betting Deposit Suspension Amid Public Outcry

2

Cameroon has reversed its decision to suspend online betting deposits, allowing platforms to resume normal operations after widespread public outcry and concerns from gaming industry stakeholders.

Cameroon Ministerial Intervention and Reversal

A letter from Minister of Territorial Administration, Atanga Nji, dated January 22, circulated online, revealing the ministry’s decision to implement a control system for better monitoring of gambling operators. The ministry had selected INTOUCH Cameroon as the exclusive technical integrator for all online player account transactions, effective January 30, 2025.This directive initially led to the suspension of online deposits, causing significant disruption and frustration among bettors.

Betting Platforms Resume Operations

Betpawa, 1xbet, Betwinner, and Betmomo have since reinstated their deposit options, enabling users to fund their accounts through MTN and Orange networks. Betpawa released a statement saying, “We are pleased to inform our users that deposits are now fully operational. Thank you for your patience and support.”

The suspension occurred during a peak betting period, with many Cameroonians eager to wager on European football leagues like the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A, and Ligue 1. The unavailability of deposit options left many unable to place bets on their favorite teams, causing widespread disappointment.
