The EFF celebrate its 12th anniversary

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) celebrated its 12th anniversary with a large rally in Khayelitsha, Western Cape. The event will unite EFF supporters, community members, and leaders to reflect on the party’s journey, achievements, and ongoing struggle for economic transformation over the past years.

Khayelitsha was chosen for its rich history of struggle and resistance, symbolizing the socio-economic challenges many South Africans still face. The EFF has long championed the empowerment of marginalized communities, making Khayelitsha a stark reminder of existing inequalities.

The EFF stated. “Khayelitsha remains physically and economically separated from the so-called ‘world-class’ parts of Cape Town, When the DA-led city talks about a smart city, they refer to white enclaves like Sea Point, Claremont, Constantia, and Stellenbosch, while the people of Khayelitsha are left to swim in poverty, crime, poor sanitation, overcrowding, and lack of basic housing.”

The anniversary event is expected to draw thousands from neighboring areas, including Site B, Site C, TR Section, Nyanga, Gugulethu, Delft, and Belhar. The rally will be held at a specially constructed 10,000-capacity dome designed to accommodate the large crowd. “This will not just be an event, it will be a Festival of the Poor, a moment to reflect on 12 years of struggle, survival, growth, and victories,” the EFF announced.

Over the past 12 years, the EFF has become a formidable force in South African politics, advocating for radical economic reforms such as land expropriation without compensation, and other radical policies aimed at addressing the country’s socio-economic challenges. Among its notable achievements, the EFF has challenged proposed VAT increases, opposed unjustified electricity price hikes, and exposed irregularities in the awarding of the National Lottery license.

The party has called for parliamentary investigations into corruption within the criminal justice system and played a key role in setting aside the illegally adopted 2025 Fiscal Framework, compelling the government to revise its budget through proper parliamentary procedures. As the EFF commemorates 12 years of activism, it reaffirms its commitment to fighting for economic freedom and social justice in South Africa.
