The Gambling Authority announced the hosting Lottey Board of Namibia on July 23–24, 2025. The visit is aimed to strengthen regulatory and enhance cooperation in the gaming section with the two entities.
The two days visit includes comprehensive site inspections, policy presentations and discussion of drafted Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two entities. These engagements reflect a commitment to foster a robust regulatory environment that is focused on responsible gaming and players protection
Key presentations focused on the regulatory frameworks that are in place, as well as Botswana support in responsible gambling. The discussions emphasized the important of innovation in policy making and the necessity of cross-border cooperation in the gaming section.
The Gambling Authority was represented by the Board Members and Chief Executive Office respectively, Mr. Gaoakanye Tapeng and Mr. Peter Emolemo Kesitilwe, along with his Executive Team. The Lotteries Board of Namibia delegation included Dr. Wycliff Shililifa, Chairperson and Dr. John Shimaneni, Chief Executive Officer.
This collaboration highlights the Authority’s leadership in advancing responsible gaming practices and its dedication to ensuring player safety and well-being.
About Gambling Authority
The Botswana Gambling Authority (also referred to as “Gambling Authority” or the “Authority”) is an autonomous body corporate that was established in terms of the Gambling Act, 2012. The Authority is charged with regulating the gambling industry in Botswana.
The Gambling Act, 2012 commenced fully on 1st April 2016 thus enabling the Gambling Authority to commence its regulatory function. Prior to April 2016, the gambling industry in Botswana was regulated under the Casino Act and The Lotteries and Betting Act.
