The Honorable Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, Minister of the Interior, has officially inaugurated an 11-member Governing Board of the Gaming Commission of Ghana, with a mandate to drive regulatory reform and promote responsible gaming practices.
The Board is tasked with ensuring compliance with international best practices, addressing underage gambling, combating illegal operators, and fostering staff capacity development within the industry.
In his discourse to the Board, Hon. Muntaka stressed the importance of supporting the passage of the draft Legislative Instrument (LI) aimed at enhancing governance standards and establishing a robust and sustainable gaming industry. He pointed out that the current legal framework of the Gaming Act fails to address evolving trends in the gaming sector, particularly with the rise of artificial intelligence.
The Minister commended the Commission for its recent progress, highlighting the drafted Legislative Instrument for regulatory reform, the development of a Health and Safety Policy, and the launch of the “Purple Month” initiative to raise awareness about gaming addiction among young people.
Hon. Muntaka expressed confidence in the Board’s capability to fulfill their responsibilities with diligence and integrity, assuring them of his full support in the quest to modernize Ghana’s gaming industry. With the Board now established, the Gaming Commission is set to make significant advancements in regulating the industry and promoting responsible gaming practices.
