In a move to protect the integrity of Ghana’s domestic football league, authorities have announced a ban on betting companies offering odds on domestic football matches, according to Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kurt Okraku, as reported by Xinhua.

Speaking at the association’s 32nd Congress, Okraku said the measure is aimed at tackling match-fixing, an issue that has affected football leagues in several countries. He described the decision as an important step towards protecting the integrity and credibility of Ghana’s domestic league.

Okraku explained that restricting betting companies from offering odds on Ghana Premier League (GPL) matches is intended to reduce the risk of financial inducements that could influence match outcomes.

“No betting company has been licensed to place odds on domestic leagues,” the GFA president said.

The GFA said the measure forms part of broader efforts to create a more transparent environment for football stakeholders while safeguarding the credibility of the GPL.

Ahead of the 2026/27 GPL season, Okraku also highlighted the association’s focus on building financially stronger clubs, improving infrastructure, developing grassroots football, enhancing player welfare, strengthening governance and increasing the commercialization of domestic football.

The new Ghana Premier League season is scheduled to begin between September 4 and 7, 2026, and conclude between May 28 and 31, 2027.
