The National Gambling Board (NGB) has officially launched a dedicated online platform that provides the public with access to a consolidated and comprehensive list of all legal, verified gambling operators in South Africa. This initiative forms part of the NGB’s ongoing efforts to combat illegal gambling including online and offshore operations, while promoting responsible gambling, protecting consumers, and safeguarding the economy.
Developed in collaboration with Provincial Licensing Authorities (PLAs), the platform offers a centralised, regularly updated database of licensed operators across the country. It enables users to easily confirm whether a gambling provider online or land-based is legally authorised to operate in South Africa.
By improving access to verified information, the platform empowers individuals to make informed decisions and encourages participation only through regulated channels that offer appropriate consumer protections. Illegal gambling continues to pose serious risks, including financial loss, lack of dispute resolution mechanisms, and exposure to fraud.
Through this verification tool, the NGB aims to reduce these risks and strengthen public trust in the regulated gambling sector. “This platform is a critical step in safeguarding South Africans from the dangers posed by illegal gambling,” said Acting CEO of the NGB, Mr. Lungile Dukwana. “It provides a trusted resource for verifying licensed operators and ensures that those who choose to gamble can do so in a safe, regulated environment. It also enhances oversight and accountability within the industry.”
He added: “We are not encouraging gambling beyond recreational use. Our goal is to promote informed and responsible participation for those who choose to engage, while protecting vulnerable individuals and ensuring compliance across the sector.” The NGB emphasised that only operators listed on the platform are legally authorised to offer gambling services in South Africa.
Members of the public are encouraged to verify operators before participating and to report any suspicious or illegal gambling activities to the NGB or relevant Provincial Licensing Authorities. The Board reiterates that the publication of this list is not intended to advertise gambling, but to protect the public from engaging with illegal operators.
