Uganda’s efforts to promote a well-regulated gambling industry received recognition from the country’s judiciary during the third National Court Open Day in Kampala, where Principal Judge Jane Frances Abodo praised the work of the National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB).
The NLGRB showcased its regulatory mandate at the public engagement event held on September 10 at the Kololo Independence Grounds. During her visit to the Board’s exhibition, Judge Abodo acknowledged its efforts to oversee Uganda’s gaming industry and highlighted the importance of public awareness in promoting legal compliance, consumer protection and effective enforcement.
Held under the theme “Delivering Inclusive, Efficient and Effective Justice,” the National Court Open Day brought together 88 exhibitors from Uganda’s Judiciary and other institutions within the justice sector.
The initiative gave members of the public an opportunity to interact directly with justice-sector organizations, learn about their mandates and provide feedback on access to and delivery of justice.
For the NLGRB, the event provided an opportunity to educate Ugandans about gambling regulations, licensing requirements, industry compliance and responsible gaming.
The regulator also highlighted measures aimed at protecting consumers from potential gambling-related harms. It encouraged the public to understand their rights and responsibilities within Uganda’s regulated gaming environment.
The latest edition followed Uganda’s second National Court Open Day, held in December 2025. That event also provided an avenue for public education on issues including gaming licensing, regulatory compliance, responsible gambling and consumer protection.
The NLGRB’s participation also coincided with Africa Safer Gambling Week, held from September 7 to 11 under the #PlaySafeAfrica campaign.
Uganda was among the countries and organizations supporting the continent-wide initiative, which promoted responsible gambling, player protection and greater awareness of gambling-related risks.
NLGRB Chief Executive Officer Denis Ngabirano said Uganda’s participation demonstrated the Board’s commitment to developing a gaming industry that operates within the law while maintaining transparency, entertainment and player safety as key priorities.
