The North West Gambling Board (NWGB) participated in the Tourism Month Media Launch hosted by the Department of Economic Development, Environment, Conservation and Tourism (DEDECT) at Bakgatla Resort in Pilanesberg.

The event was held under the theme “Digital and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism,” highlighting the growing role of technology and artificial intelligence in transforming the tourism sector and improving visitor experiences.

In her keynote address, MEC Bitsa Lenkopane highlighted tourism as a key contributor to economic activity and livelihoods, while calling for greater adoption of digital technologies and artificial intelligence to strengthen the sector, enhance visitor experiences and support tourism-related businesses.

Representing the gambling industry, NWGB Acting CEO Boitumelo Qalinge highlighted the role of gambling within the broader tourism and entertainment ecosystem. He also emphasized the importance of responsible gambling, consumer protection and support services for individuals affected by gambling-related problems.

The NWGB’s participation underscored the Board’s commitment to responsible gambling and collaboration with stakeholders in promoting a safe, inclusive and innovative tourism environment across the North West Province.

The Tourism Month engagement also provided an opportunity for stakeholders from different sectors to explore how technology, responsible practices and collaboration can contribute to the continued development of tourism in the province.
