Victoria Island, Lagos, has helped strengthen the city’s status as Africa’s esports powerhouse with the successful hosting of GamrX 2025, the continent’s largest competitive gaming tournament.

The event which took place at the Landmark Event Centre in Victoria Island, attracting over 1,000 gamers competing in popular titles like Street Fighter, Red Bull Kumite, EA FC, Mortal Kombat, PUBG Mobile, and Call of Duty Mobile. The tournament featured a multimillion-naira prize pool.

Lekan Fatodu, the Director-General of the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) attended the event and highlighted the government’s support for the fourth edition of the GamrX Africa esports tournament. He noted that the event attracted gamers from nine African countries, competing for a total cash prize of N15 million. Fatodu emphasized that this tournament presents a significant opportunity for the government to tap into the growing esports market.

He commended the sportsmanship of the participants and praised the event organizers, stating, “On behalf of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, we want to appreciate you for your investment in creativity, commitment, and passion. You have created an atmosphere that fosters friendliness, sportsmanship, and great achievements.”

Fatodu expressed excitement about the event, saying, “This is Lagos. It’s a pleasure to be here today; it is amazing. As a state, we will continue to support efforts to make this event even bigger. We currently have nine countries participating, and next year we aim to double that number, making Lagos a reference point in the global gaming ecosystem. Thank you for making this happen. Congratulations on a very successful event!”
