The Gauteng Gambling Board (GGB) Administrator, Dr Khathutshelo Ramakumba, has briefed staff and management on the organization’s Diagnostic Report and the strategic re-engineering process aimed at stabilizing and repositioning the regulator.

During the briefing, Dr Ramakumba outlined several priorities that will guide the organization’s transformation and efforts to strengthen its ability to fulfill its regulatory mandate.

Key areas identified include the development of a fit-for-purpose organizational structure, with a focus on ensuring that employees are appropriately positioned according to their roles and responsibilities.

The Administrator also highlighted the importance of strengthening the organization’s culture, with greater emphasis on ethics, accountability, professionalism and performance.

Policy reform and regulatory enforcement were identified as further priorities, with the GGB seeking to strengthen its regulatory framework and enforcement capabilities.

Financial sustainability will also remain a key focus, including efforts to improve the organization’s financial stability and enhance revenue generation.

Another major priority is digital transformation. Dr Ramakumba noted that the gambling industry is increasingly operating within the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) and artificial intelligence (AI) era, requiring regulators to develop modern systems and capabilities that can keep pace with technological developments.

He emphasized the need for the GGB to invest in digital systems and capabilities that can support effective regulation of an increasingly digitalized gambling industry.

The staff and management briefing represent an important step in the GGB’s strategic re-engineering process as the organization works towards becoming a stable, modern, financially sustainable and effective regulatory institution capable of delivering on its mandate.
