The Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority (LSLGA), in collaboration with the Federation of State Gaming Regulators of Nigeria (FSGRN), has declared Stake.com’s gaming operations unlawful in Lagos State and across the Federation’s 24 member States.

Stake.com is not licensed by the LSLGA or by any FSGRN member State. The company has also failed to register, declare, or remit applicable monthly gaming taxes and levies, despite receiving at least ten formal compliance notices over the past two years.

The authority of States to regulate lotteries, betting, and gaming was confirmed by the Supreme Court of Nigeria in Attorney-General of Lagos State & Ors v. Attorney-General of the Federation & Ors (SC/1/2008), delivered on 22 November 2024. Accordingly, no operator may lawfully offer gaming services within a State without the required State license.

LSLGA and FSGRN are taking appropriate enforcement action against Stake.com, its directors, and any payment companies, financial institutions, advertising platforms, influencers, or other entities found to be facilitating these unlawful operations.

Members of the public are advised to stop wagering on Stake.com and to patronize only duly licensed gaming operators. Banks, payment service providers, fintech companies, media organizations, and digital advertising platforms are also urged to conduct proper due diligence and to cease facilitating unlicensed gaming activities.

LSLGA and FSGRN remain committed to protecting Nigerian consumers, safeguarding minors, maintaining market integrity, and ensuring full compliance with applicable State laws and tax obligations.
