The Gambling Authority of Botswana has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable economic development and responsible gambling regulation during Botswana Sustainability Week 2026, held from October 21 to 23 at Maun Sedie Hotel.
The event, themed “The Business of Sustainability: Activating Private Sector Leadership to Drive Botswana’s Next Growth Economy,” brought together government officials, business leaders and other stakeholders to discuss strategies for sustainable growth and private-sector development.
Day two of the event focused on practical approaches to national development, including project implementation challenges, strategic benefits, resource allocation and support mechanisms across different industries.
A key highlight was an executive panel discussion featuring the Minister of Trade and Entrepreneurship, Hon. Tiroeaone Ntsima, and the Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Dithapelo Keorapetse. Other prominent attendees included the Minister of Environment and Tourism, Hon. Wynter Mmolotsi, Hon. Dumelang Saleshando and Gambling Authority Chief Financial Officer Tshepang Magang.
The Gambling Authority said regulatory leadership plays an important role in supporting Botswana’s socioeconomic sustainability. Through its Motshameko O Phepa (Responsible Gambling) initiative, the Authority promotes responsible gambling practices while seeking to protect players and support the long-term well-being of local communities.
The regulator also encouraged delegates and stakeholders to visit its exhibition stand to learn more about its strategic initiatives, engage with its team and discuss the role of responsible oversight in creating sustainable value.
Botswana Sustainability Week 2026 provided a platform for continued dialogue and collaboration on how government and private-sector leadership can contribute to the country’s next phase of economic growth.
The Gambling Authority’s participation highlights the place of responsible gambling regulation within broader discussions on sustainable development, player protection and community well-being.
