Pagcor’s Immediate Gambling Advertisement Ban

The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor) has mandated the immediate removal of all gambling billboards and advertisements nationwide. This decision addresses growing concerns about gambling addiction and its effects on vulnerable groups, especially the youth.


Curbing Online Gambling Addictions:

All licensees, suppliers, and gaming venue operators must dismantle advertising materials, including those on public transport vehicles. This action follows a notable surge in online gambling, which has raised concerns about potential social issues. For the first time, revenue from online gaming has exceeded that from integrated resort casinos in the Philippines, highlighting the urgency of the situation.

Pagcor Chairman Alejandro Tengco stated, “Regulating excessive and pervasive gambling advertisements is a critical step in protecting vulnerable sectors of society.” He emphasized the agency’s dual responsibility to generate state revenue while preventing the promotion of gambling addiction. In a related move, Thailand recently withdrew a Bill to legalize casinos in response to increasing public opposition, reflecting broader regional concerns about gambling policies.

Pagcor is committed to promoting responsible gambling practices and will continue to monitor the industry closely. The agency is also working with lawmakers to discuss additional regulations aimed at curbing online gambling and safeguarding the public.
