The Malawi Gaming & Lotteries Authority (MAGLA), the statutory regulator for all gaming, betting, and lottery activities in Malawi, has enhanced its partnership with the Southwest Region Police to promote responsible gambling through a comprehensive community awareness campaign. Established by Parliament under the Gaming and Lotteries Act of 2022, MAGLA’s mission is to create a safe, transparent, and well-regulated gaming environment that protects consumers and supports national development.
The ongoing campaign, which has already reached communities in Blantyre and Neno, aims to foster healthy attitudes toward gambling while equipping the public with essential information on safer play. Key messages include:
- Know Your Limits: Encourage players to set budgets and adhere to them to avoid financial harm.
- Gambling for Entertainment, Not Income: Emphasize that gambling should be enjoyed responsibly, not seen as a way to generate income.
- Protecting Vulnerable Groups: Highlight the importance of shielding minors and at-risk individuals from gambling-related harms.
- Seeking Help When Gambling Stops Being Fun: Inform communities about available support systems, such as voluntary self-exclusion, for those who need assistance.
