Alleged Gambling Inside LBS Compound as Senator Raise Alarm

Bomi County Senator Edwin M. Snowe has written to the Liberian Senate raising serious concerns about an alleged gambling center operating inside the Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS) compound, the country’s state-owned radio and television station.

Sen. Snowe briefed the Senate on Monday, November 11, 2025, after his communication was read in plenary. He explained that he learned about the issue while on a flight, where a team from Ghana informed him that a gambling center was being operated inside the ELBC/LBS compound.

According to him, he initially doubted the claim and questioned whether the center was located outside or within the facility. However, the team insisted that the gambling operation was inside the LBS compound and had been authorized by LBS management.

In his letter, Senator Snowe wrote:
“Credible reports indicate that the Liberia Broadcasting System has entered into an agreement with Blue Star Hi-Tech Liberia Limited, a gambling company, allowing a gambling center to operate within the premises of our national broadcaster.”

He added that the individuals he met also shared photographs of the alleged center, which he has forwarded to the Senate’s communication channels.

“I don’t think we need to carry LBS to that level by opening a gambling center there. This is unacceptable. My letter requests the Committee on Broadcasting and Security to investigate the matter,” he said.

Senator Snowe stressed that the allegations threaten the moral standing, institutional integrity, and public image of the Liberia Broadcasting System. LBS is fully funded by the national government and plays a key role in public communication, education, and entertainment.

He warned that if the issue is not addressed, it could lead to a loss of public trust in one of the country’s most important communication institutions.

Snowe therefore requested a full-scale investigation by the Senate’s Committee on Information, Broadcasting, and Cultural Affairs to examine the alleged agreement between LBS and the gambling company.

Following his communication, Senate Pro-Tempore Nyonblee Kangar-Lawrence instructed the Committee on Broadcasting and Security to launch an immediate investigation. The committee is expected to present its report to the Senate on Thursday.
