The Institute for Gambling Supervision (ISJ) has visited gambling operator Bantu Bet as part of its “ISJ in Dialogue” initiative.

The institutional visit took place on August 11 and aimed to strengthen cooperation between Angola’s gambling regulator and licensed operators.

The delegation was led by ISJ Managing Director Dr. Nerethz Tati and was received by the Chairman of Bantu Bet’s Board of Directors.

The meeting focused on building greater trust and transparency between the regulator and Angola’s gambling operators.

The ISJ said closer cooperation is important for improving compliance and addressing key challenges facing the country’s regulated gambling sector. Several regulatory and operational measures were discussed during the meeting.

One of the main issues discussed was the strengthening of Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements. The ISJ highlighted the need for stronger player identification and validation procedures.

Improved KYC controls can help operators meet regulatory obligations while supporting efforts to protect players and prevent unlawful activity.

The regulator also discussed measures to combat illegal gambling websites operating in Angola. These measures include the wider publication of announcements about illegal websites and the deactivation of platforms identified as operating outside the country’s regulatory framework.

The initiative is intended to make consumers more aware of unauthorised gambling platforms and reduce their access to illegal operators.

The ISJ also stressed the need to communicate mandatory distancing rules and responsible gambling messages to billboard managers and advertising companies.

The regulator wants advertising stakeholders to have a clear understanding of the requirements that apply to gambling promotions. This could help improve compliance across outdoor advertising and other promotional channels.

The ISJ recommended standardising the visual identity of authorised gambling mediators. A consistent appearance could make it easier for consumers to identify legitimate and approved gambling points.

The regulator also highlighted the importance of working with Municipal Administrations to validate locations proposed for new points of sale.

The meeting with Bantu Bet forms part of the ISJ’s wider effort to strengthen collaboration with gambling operators.

Through the “ISJ in Dialogue” initiative, the regulator aims to improve compliance while creating a more transparent relationship with the industry.

The ISJ said these measures will support player protection and help build a more sustainable, regulated, and responsible gambling market in Angola.
