ARJH and HACA Set New Rules to Regulate Sports Betting Advertising

The Gaming Regulatory Authority (ARJH) and the High Authority for Communication (HACA) have held a working session to address concerns surrounding misleading advertising for sports betting on digital platforms in Côte d’Ivoire.

The meeting, held at HACA headquarters, focused on strengthening oversight of digital advertising and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements governing gaming-related communications.

Leading the ARJH delegation, Director General Kouakou Hyacinthe OKOU highlighted the potential consequences of misleading sports betting advertisements carried out in violation of regulatory provisions. He stressed the challenges such practices pose to the gaming sector and the need for stronger oversight of digital content.

HACA Director General Yacouba DEMBELE welcomed the ARJH’s initiative and acknowledged the growing challenges associated with monitoring advertising content across digital platforms. He committed HACA to supporting the regulatory authority within a strengthened framework for supervising digital advertising related to games of chance.

As part of the measures discussed, the authorities will introduce a mandatory prior visa for advertising communications related to games of chance. Gaming operators will also be required to submit their advertising campaigns to HACA for validation before publication.

In addition, HACA will receive an official list of authorized games to support the identification and monitoring of compliant gaming-related advertising. To ensure effective coordination between the two institutions, a joint task force will be established to coordinate enforcement and other related actions.

The collaboration between ARJH and HACA forms part of broader efforts to strengthen regulatory oversight of digital sports betting advertising and promote compliance within Côte d’Ivoire’s gaming sector.
