betPawa Expands Player Appreciation Program to Women’s FA Cup in Ghana

Ghana women’s football has taken another huge step forward after betPawa extended its game-changing player appreciation program, the Locker Room Bonus, to cover the Women’s FA Cup, starting from the round of 16 to the final.

The Locker Room Bonus is a direct benefit to players that seeks to celebrate winners and further reward great performances  that betPawa has introduced across multiple countries and sports. By this project, players are paid a winning bonus, provided they make the match day squad list.

“Every year as we renew our partnership with the Ghana Football Association, we always come with something more to build on the previous season’s support. Last year, the amount paid out per player was more than doubled from GH¢150 a win the previous season to GH¢400,” said the brand’s Chief Commercial Officer Ntoudi Mouyelo.

This year, we have extended our Locker Room Bonus payouts to include women’s football competition with our initial focus being on the FA Cup. Again here, we shall pay GH¢400 to the players of the teams that win their matches, starting from the round of 16. In addition to the players, we’ll also pay three technical staff after each Ghana Premier League and the Women’s FA Cup victory,” he added.

The money is paid directly to their mobile money wallets immediately after winning a match and before the players and staff leave the stadium, hence the term Locker Room Bonus.

betPawa has been in partnership with the GFA since the 2022-23 season. Players in the country’s men’s top-tier league – the Ghana Premier League – have been beneficiaries of the LRB to date.

Last season, the initiative saw 490 GPL players get the betPawa Locker Room Bonus payouts after being part of their teams’ winning squads. A total of GH¢1.6 Million was paid out as LRB during the period. In total, 17 out of the 18 Ghana Premier League clubs participated, with only Kumasi’s Asante Kotoko not opting in.

Besides the LRB, betPawa has also supported Ghanaian football through infrastructure development such as the recently commissioned 3,000-capacity stadium at the Ghanaman Soccer Center of Excellence in Prampram.

The first phase of the stadium development, which involved completion of a playing pitch, was unveiled on 27th August. The stadium has been christened ‘betPawa Park’.

The stadium construction partnership is the first such initiative by a betting brand in the country.
