Booming Games on African iGaming Next Phase of Growth

Booming Games on Africa’s Next Phase of iGaming Growth

The African iGaming industry is currently undergoing a period of rapid evolution. This growth is primarily fueled by expanding internet access and widespread mobile technology adoption. Solomon Godwin, Head of Africa at Booming Games, highlights that success in this region requires a deep focus on regulated jurisdictions and localized content.

Managing compliance across Africa is uniquely challenging because fragmentation often exists within individual countries. In many markets, regulations differ significantly between states or provinces. Consequently, game providers must meet multiple regulatory requirements within the same country.

“The African gaming market is not only fragmented at the continental level, but in many cases, fragmentation also exists within individual countries,” Godwin explains.

This reality necessitates a highly adaptable approach. Therefore, suppliers must ensure that all legal and technical standards are met consistently across different regions.

African operators are increasingly requesting lightweight games that feature localized themes. These products must be optimized for the technical realities of the market, specifically focusing on mobile usage and varying internet speeds. Furthermore, the industry is shifting away from traditional business models toward deeper collaboration.

“Instead of the traditional supplier–operator relationship, there is now a stronger focus on collaboration, where both parties work closely together to develop products,” says Godwin.

This partnership strategy allows developers to create superior gaming experiences tailored specifically to the local audience.

In terms of game mechanics, there is a clear preference for mid-to-low volatility games. While betting patterns vary by country, global game themes often struggle to gain a foothold. In contrast, content centered around local culture and adventure tends to perform much better.

“Many globally centred game themes have struggled over time to fully connect with African players, as they may not always reflect the cultural interests or expectations of the local audience,” Godwin notes.

The role of affiliates and influencers is vital for driving revenue growth. While influencers are effective for short-term growth, affiliate partnerships focus on long-term community building. Looking ahead, products that offer players a sense of agency are expected to see the most significant growth.

“Gaming products that give players a sense of control over their betting decisions tend to perform very well across the continent,” Godwin concludes.

Specifically, crash games are seeing significant growth because they allow players to manage their own risk and decide exactly when to cash out.
