Botswana’s Gambling Authority Holds Public Hearing for Bookmaker and Totalisator License Applications

In a move to diversify Botswana’s economy, the Gambling Authority has commenced a public hearing for applications for Bookmaker and Totalisator licenses. The hearing is taking place from August 6th to 8th, 2024 at the Travel Lodge in Gaborone.

Sixteen (16) applicants are presenting their cases during this 3-day event, which aligns with Regulation 68 of the Gambling Regulations 2016. This public hearing marks a significant step forward in expanding the country’s gambling and betting industry.

The Bookmaker and Totalisator licenses will allow successful applicants to operate sports betting and pari-mutuel betting services in Botswana. This is expected to attract investment, create jobs, and generate additional revenue streams for the government.

The public hearing provides an opportunity for transparency and stakeholder engagement as the Gambling Authority evaluates the applications. The final decisions on the licenses are anticipated in the coming months.
