The Government of Eswatini has reportedly terminated the official cellphone contract assigned to Gcinangaye Tsabedze, Director of Tourism in the Ministry of Tourism and Environmental Affairs, amid reported concerns over her attendance and conduct.

The Acting Principal Secretary Hlobsile Dlamini wrote to MTN Eswatini requesting the closure of Tsabedze’s Government communication contract associated with the number 7606 3915.

The report alleges that Tsabedze had stopped reporting for duty and was instead spending time at various hotels. It further alleges that some hotels provided her and individuals described as her associates with complimentary alcohol, accommodation and food in exchange for unspecified favours.

The Ministry of Tourism and Environmental Affairs is responsible for licensing casinos operating within hotels in Eswatini. However, the allegations concerning Tsabedze’s conduct and any purported relationship between hotel operators and the Tourism Director have not been independently established.

The attempts to contact Tsabedze through her reported pay-as-you-go number were unsuccessful. Acting Government Spokesperson Thabile Mdluli was also reportedly unavailable for comment at the time of publication.

The report further states that Dlamini warned other Ministry employees that disciplinary and financial consequences could follow if they failed to report for duty while continuing to receive public funds.

According to the publication, Tsabedze subsequently returned to work after learning that the Acting Principal Secretary had written to the Civil Service Commission (CSC) seeking the suspension of her salary pending disciplinary proceedings.

Documents reportedly indicate that the CSC is handling the matter and that Tsabedze could appear before a disciplinary committee. The allegations remain subject to the outcome of any formal investigation or disciplinary process, and no finding of misconduct has been established in the information currently available.
