The Gaming Board of Tanzania (GBT) and the Prime Minister’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (PMO-RALG) have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing collaboration in the regulation, supervision, and management of gaming activities across the country.

The agreement was signed by the Director General of the Gaming Board of Tanzania, Mr. James B. Mbalwe, and the Permanent Secretary of PMO-RALG, Mr. Adolf H. Ndunguru. It establishes a structured framework for inter-institutional cooperation designed to improve enforcement efficiency, promote responsible gaming practices, and strengthen compliance with existing gaming laws and regulations.

Through this partnership, both institutions will work closely in key areas including public awareness campaigns, information and data sharing, joint inspections, and coordinated monitoring of gaming operators nationwide. The MoU also emphasizes capacity building initiatives for relevant personnel at both national and local government levels to ensure effective implementation of gaming policies.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, officials noted that the collaboration reflects a shared commitment to good governance, transparency, and accountability in the gaming industry. It is also expected to enhance revenue oversight, reduce illegal gaming activities, and improve service delivery through stronger institutional coordination.

Furthermore, the partnership is anticipated to support the decentralization of regulatory functions, enabling local government authorities to play a more active role in monitoring gaming activities within their jurisdictions, while aligning with national regulatory standards set by the Gaming Board of Tanzania.

Both institutions reaffirmed their dedication to safeguarding public interest, ensuring a well-regulated gaming environment, and fostering sustainable growth within Tanzania’s gaming sector.
