Kenya’s iGaming demand rose 15.3% WoW in the seven days to Sept 20, according to Blask Index data, after the country’s top football league announced a kickoff date and then postponed every Saturday fixture hours later amid conflicting court orders — a two-day event that produced the single largest daily search spike Kenya has recorded this month.

On Sept 16, the Football Kenya Federation told clubs the SportPesa Premier League would kick off Sept 19. It did — then FKF postponed all Saturday fixtures the same day, citing conflicting court orders.

Daily Blask Index data shows demand jumped to 2.78 million on Sept 20, more than double the roughly 1.3–1.9 million range the market had run for most of September, with the spike landing precisely on Sept 19–20 rather than building gradually across the week.

The chaos lands in the middle of a separate, larger story: Kenya’s existing gambling licences are set to expire Sept 24, with the country’s High Court not due to rule on the matter until Oct 2 — leaving the industry operating in a roughly week-long gap between licence expiry and judicial resolution.

The daily data is notable for what it rules out as much as what it confirms: the spike does not show a gradual build toward the Sept 24 licence deadline. Search attention this week was about the league’s launch turning into a legal fight, not about the looming licensing cliff — which is still ahead.
