The Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority (LSLGA), led by CEO Bashir Abiola Are, has praised the remarkable achievements of young athletes supported through its youth sports development programs.
Recently, two athletes from Lagos Island Local Government brought home gold and bronze medals while representing Team Lagos at the National Youth Sports Championship in Delta State. Their success underscores the Authority’s ongoing investment in grassroots sports and talent discovery.
LSLGA goes beyond just tournament participation. The organization regularly provides athletes with kits, gym equipment, and logistical support, ensuring that young talents have the tools they need to succeed. This commitment not only boosts morale but also opens doors for skills development and high-level performance.
One of LSLGA’s flagship events is the Annual Lagos Youth Tennis Tournament, hosted at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club. This tournament gives young players exposure to international rankings, with several participants already ranked among the top 100 in Africa in their categories. This demonstrates the tournament’s significant impact on youth sports careers.
Under Mr. Are’s leadership, LSLGA’s efforts also extend beyond Nigeria. Three years ago, the Authority sponsored a friendly football match in Morocco for Lagos youth players. This initiative led to two players being signed to professional clubs in Portugal, providing them with a global platform to showcase their talent.
