The National Lottery of Burkina Faso (LONAB) participated on September 16, in the official commissioning of the new Pediatric Oncology Center at the Yalgado Ouédraogo University Hospital Center (CHU-YO), a major healthcare facility designed to improve the treatment and care of children with cancer in Burkina Faso.
The new center was established through an initiative of the Lions Clubs International District 403 A3 Foundation, with support from several institutional and private partners. The official inauguration brought together health authorities, Lions Club representatives, and partners involved in the project.
As part of its social responsibility mission and commitment to improving the well-being of the Burkinabé population, LONAB contributed significantly to the project by signing a 50 million CFA franc contract to equip the pediatric oncology service at CHU-YO.
LONAB Director General Ibrahim Ben Harouna Zarani was represented at the ceremony by his Technical Advisor, Aymar Tiendrébéogo, who delivered a speech on behalf of the partners. He highlighted LONAB’s commitment to contributing to national development through concrete initiatives that benefit citizens, particularly in strategic sectors such as healthcare.
“No child should be deprived of quality care due to the lack of infrastructure or medical equipment,” Tiendrébéogo said, reaffirming LONAB’s commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at improving living conditions across Burkina Faso.
The new Pediatric Oncology Center addresses a growing need for specialized healthcare services. According to CHU-YO officials, the pediatric oncology unit receives an average of 150 new childhood cancer cases each year.
The new facility can accommodate up to 25 patients and is expected to provide improved conditions for treatment, comfort, and safety for young patients, their families, and healthcare workers.
With an estimated total cost of more than 205 million CFA francs, the building includes around 20 medical rooms, administrative offices, and dedicated reception, waiting, and hospitalization areas.
During the ceremony, project officials commended LONAB’s contribution, noting that its support helped strengthen the equipment available at the new pediatric oncology center and enhance the capacity of this important healthcare facility.
Beyond its financial contribution, LONAB’s participation reflects its broader commitment to directing resources generated through its activities toward national development and solidarity.
The initiative forms part of the institution’s wider social interventions in areas including healthcare, education, sports, and support for vulnerable groups.
