The LONACI Foundation has organized an awareness conference for employees on breast and prostate cancer as part of efforts to promote early detection and encourage preventive health practices.
Held on October 30, 2026, ahead of the October Rose and Blue November awareness campaigns, the conference focused on the importance of regular screening, early diagnosis and appropriate medical care.
The session was led by Professor Judith Didi-Kouko Coulibaly, Director of the National Center for Medical Oncology and Radiotherapy Alassane Ouattara (CNRAO). It was organized at the invitation of Mrs Dominique M’Bahia, Director of Social Action.
Addressing participants, Professor Coulibaly emphasized that early detection and timely treatment significantly improve the chances of successful cancer treatment.
“Cancer can be cured when it is discovered early and properly treated,” she said.
According to figures presented at the conference, Côte d’Ivoire recorded 4,845 new breast cancer cases in 2024, making it the country’s leading cancer regardless of gender. Prostate cancer ranked first among men, with 2,632 new cases recorded during the same year.
Professor Coulibaly highlighted the importance of screening, recommending that women begin breast cancer screening at the age of 20, while Black men should start prostate cancer screening at 40.
Dr Jean Serge Koffi, a medical officer at LONACI, also highlighted the role of healthy eating and regular physical activity in reducing cancer risks and supporting overall health.
The conference concluded with a call for employees to prioritize regular screening, adopt healthy lifestyles and remain hopeful when facing a cancer diagnosis.
Through the initiative, the LONACI Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to health awareness and prevention, encouraging employees to take proactive steps towards protecting their wellbeing.
