The Star Foundation, powered by LottoStar, has made significant strides in transforming lives across South Africa. Through bold campaigns and partnerships, the foundation addresses pressing social issues, moving beyond charity to create meaningful, sustained impact.
In partnership with Qhubeka, a charity that provides bicycles to those in need, The Star Foundation launched the “Back to School” campaign in Northwest province. They donated 50 bicycles to learners at Sefutswelo High School, who previously walked long distances to school.
This initiative has improved attendance, reduced travel time, and created job opportunities in the community through bike assembly and maintenance training. The Star Foundation renewed its commitment to inclusive mobility by investing an additional R600,000 in its partnership with Jumping Kids.
This funding supports custom prosthetic limb fittings for more children. Over the year, 16 beneficiaries will receive ongoing care and prosthetic maintenance to enhance their confidence and mobility. To address food security, The Star Foundation has committed over R3 million to a year-long campaign with SA Harvest.
This aims to deliver rescued food to over 250 community-based organizations preparing meals for the hungry. In just three months, over 180 tonnes of surplus food were distributed, resulting in more than 700,000 nutritious meals served in Gauteng, Western Cape, Eastern Cape, and KwaZulu-Natal.
In the Western Cape, nearly R2 million supports two U-turn service centres. These centres provide hot meals, clean clothing, group therapy, and access to ablution facilities. Since May 2025, the partnership has delivered over 24,000 critical services to individuals seeking to overcome homelessness.
With support from 1609 Group and The Star Foundation, Little Angels in Hout Bay, Cape Town, is expanding its services with a R2.5 million donation towards its operational budget. The centre educates over 100 children, provides daily meals for up to 1,000 people, and offers a safe house for women and children, along with youth development programs. Little Angels exemplifies resilience in the face of adversity.
In Gauteng, The Star Foundation’s R1.2 million investment in Help2Read is enhancing literacy in under-resourced schools while creating job opportunities in the community. So far, 23 young women have been trained to deliver reading support programs, benefiting hundreds of children through one-on-one assistance.
Through a five-year program with Crew for a Cause, The Star Foundation is funding scholarships for 10 exceptional learners from underserved areas at top-tier schools in the Western Cape. These Grade 8 students have already shown impressive results, both academically and personally, laying a solid foundation for their future.
Aligned with their mission to develop future leaders, The Star Foundation’s R500,000 contribution to Community Keepers is enhancing the emotional well-being of over 3,000 learners in Bonnievale, Western Cape. Through counseling, workshops, and school-based support, this program takes a holistic approach to improve mental health among young people facing daily challenges.
