The Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority (LSLGA), in collaboration with the African iGaming Alliance (AiA), has hosted a press briefing at its headquarters in Lagos as part of a continent-wide initiative to promote responsible gambling during Safer Gambling Week.
The briefing, hosted by LSLGA Chief Executive Officer, Mr Bashir Are, brought together key stakeholders from Nigeria’s gaming industry, responsible-gambling advocates, healthcare professionals and members of the media to discuss the importance of safer gambling practices.
Among the participants were Ms Olabimpe Akingba, representing the African iGaming Alliance and serving as Responsible Gaming Director at betPawa; Mr Fisayo Oke, CEO of Gamble Alert; Mr Kayode Lawal, CEO of SAFEPLAY Technologies; Ms Gift Tuadibofa, Executive Secretary of the Association of Nigerian Bookmakers; the Head of Responsible Gaming at Bet9ja; Dr Abiola Salawu of the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Yaba; and a representative of BetWinner.
The engagement forms part of efforts to strengthen public awareness around responsible gambling and encourage safer participation across Lagos State.
As part of the initiative, LSLGA will support public advocacy efforts at physical locations and across the state’s transportation systems, helping to take responsible-gambling messages beyond industry platforms and into resident’s everyday environments.
A key message from the briefing was the importance of maintaining control when participating in gambling activities. Stakeholders emphasized that gambling should be viewed as a form of entertainment rather than a source of income or a solution to financial challenges.
The initiative reinforces the importance of promoting informed and responsible gambling behavior while encouraging members of the public to recognize the potential risks associated with uncontrolled gambling.
LSLGA and its partners continue to support efforts aimed at strengthening responsible-gambling awareness and promoting safer participation across the gaming ecosystem.
