The Mpumalanga Economic Regulator (MER) has officially launched MER Connect, a new online regulatory services platform designed to enhance service delivery, improve operational efficiency, and provide a seamless digital experience for gambling and liquor industry stakeholders.

The launch marks a major milestone in MER’s ongoing digital transformation strategy, aimed at modernising regulatory processes and making it easier for businesses to access essential licensing and compliance services.

MER Connect automates several regulatory processes that were previously handled manually, enabling faster and more efficient processing of applications.

The platform also introduces enhanced integration with key external stakeholders, including local municipalities and the South African Police Service (SAPS). This collaboration is expected to improve the processing of gambling and liquor-related licence applications while strengthening coordination between regulatory agencies.

Before its official launch, MER Connect underwent extensive testing and a pilot implementation involving a selected group of licence holders.

Following the successful completion of the pilot programme, the Mpumalanga Economic Regulator has confirmed that the platform is now ready for rollout to both existing and prospective gambling and liquor licensees across the province.

The introduction of MER Connect reflects the regulator’s commitment to embracing digital innovation, improving service delivery, and creating a more efficient licensing environment for South Africa’s gambling and liquor industries.

By digitising key regulatory processes, MER aims to reduce administrative delays, enhance transparency, and provide stakeholders with a faster and more user-friendly licensing experience.
