The National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB) has wrapped up the week with decisive action. The Board focused on two fronts: dismantling illegal operations and engaging football authorities to safeguard sport integrity.

On Friday, NLGRB’s regional team in Gulu, alongside the Uganda Police Force, raided an illegal gaming site in Makor Nyacara Ward, Nebbi District.

The operation led to the arrest of Zhou Juhua, a Chinese national. Officers found him in possession of significant equipment: 7 fish tables, 26 slot machines, 5 TV screens, Over 120 motherboards and spare parts

Investigations revealed the suspect operated under the alias “Mr. Lin” and falsely presented himself as a licensed manufacturer.

The NLGRB commended the Makor community for whistleblowing and thanked local authorities for their coordinated support.

Earlier in the week, the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) hosted a consultative meeting with the NLGRB at the FUFA Complex in Mengo.

The meeting aimed to align gaming regulation with football governance. Key attendees included: Justus Mugisha, FUFA 1st Vice President and Denis Mudene, NLGRB CEO

Discussions focused on mitigating emerging risks such as underage betting, illegal operations, and match manipulation.

Both institutions emphasized a preventive approach. They agreed to prioritize education, awareness, and strengthened collaboration between regulators and sports bodies.

Taken together, these events demonstrate the NLGRB’s joined-up strategy. By combining partnership-driven prevention with decisive enforcement, the Board aims to create a safe, fair, and responsible gaming environment in Uganda.
