The National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB) has reported a massive surge in revenue.
According to officials, annual non-tax revenue collections grew from Shs1.14 billion in the 2019/2020 financial year to Shs8.79 billion in 2024/2025.
Acting Executive Director Bernard Winyi presented these figures to the Finance Committee of Parliament. He highlighted the impressive long-term trajectory.
“We have seen a remarkable growth in our revenue collections, from Shs17.4 billion in 2015/2016 to Shs323 billion in 2024/2025,” Winyi stated.
For the first half of the current financial year (2025/2026), the Board has already collected Shs176.7 billion. They are aiming for a total target of Shs391 billion by the end of the year.
The Board attributes this success to three key factors:
- Improved licensing processes.
- Revised fee structures.
- Strengthened compliance systems.
Legislators praised the Board’s performance. MP Paul Omara (Otuke County) commended the momentum and pledged to lobby for increased budgetary support.
However, challenges remain regarding enforcement. Hon. Dicksons Kateshumbwa (Sheema Municipality) questioned the Board’s capacity to curb illicit gaming machines. He suggested that the Board must collaborate with local government structures.
“How do you plan to work with parish chiefs and other local leaders to identify and deal with these illegal operators?” Kateshumbwa asked.
