The North West Gambling Board (NWGB) has stepped up its regulatory oversight efforts through direct engagements with licensed gambling operators as part of its ongoing commitment to strengthening compliance within the industry.

NWGB Members and Management recently visited Rio Hotel and Casino in Klerksdorp, providing Board Members with practical insight into the operator’s licensed activities and the implementation of regulatory monitoring requirements.

The engagement forms part of the Board’s ongoing efforts to maintain regulatory visibility, assess compliance and strengthen communication with licensed operators.

Prof. George Malebe said the purpose of the Board’s “Blitz” initiative is to enhance regulatory visibility and ensure that licensed operators consistently comply with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

The initiative enables the Board to engage directly with operators while gaining a practical understanding of their operations and the measures in place to meet regulatory obligations.

Acting CEO of the North West Gambling Board, Mr Boitumelo Qalinge, welcomed the Board’s progressive approach to regulatory oversight, highlighting the importance of continued engagement with operators.

Through regular and direct engagements, the NWGB aims to foster a strong culture of compliance across the gambling sector while safeguarding the integrity of the industry.

The Board said its proactive regulatory approach also supports its broader mandate to protect the public and ensure that gambling activities within the province are conducted in accordance with established legal and regulatory standards.

The continued operator engagements demonstrate the NWGB’s commitment to effective regulation, strengthened compliance oversight and constructive collaboration with licensed gambling operators across the North West Province.
