An Ohio man’s persistence paid off after 22 years, winning $3.5 million in the Ohio Lottery’s Classic Lotto game. The winning numbers: 6, 8, 16, 20, 26, and 45 were drawn on February 4, according to an official Ohio Lottery press release.

When he saw the results, the winner exclaimed to his wife, “We’re going to get a really big pool!” He also announced his retirement following the win.

The winner explained that he consistently played the same numbers out of sheer determination, despite only receiving a few small wins over the years. With assistance from his best friend, he spent approximately $10 per month on tickets, even while traveling.

The jackpot winner opted for the cash option of $1.7 million, which will yield approximately $1.28 million after taxes. In addition to the celebratory pool he promised his wife, he plans to purchase a new home and set up a home gym. The winning ticket was purchased at a Mapco convenience store in Akron, Ohio.
