OpenBet, a global leader in betting technology, has reached a significant milestone in its partnership with South African operator World Sports Betting (WSB). During the 2026 World Sports Betting Cape Town Met, the platform successfully processed more than three times WSB’s average daily activity with zero downtime.
This performance highlights the resilience of the technology stack less than a year after WSB completed its phased migration to OpenBet. The transition began with the Player Account Management (PAM) platform in February 2025, followed by a full sportsbook launch in October 2025.
A Localised Solution for South Africa
OpenBet and WSB collaborated to create a solution tailored to South Africa’s unique regulatory and player landscape. The integrated platform now offers several advanced features designed to enhance the player experience. These include expanded betting options such as 50-leg accumulators and partially redeemable free bets.
The system also provides omni-channel support through advanced Telebet functionality for telephone betting and integrated retail-digital systems. Additionally, players can access unified pools betting for sports and racing via the OpenBet Trading System. A robust compliance framework ensures the operator manages taxation and KYC processes effectively for sustainable growth.
Scaling for a Growing Market
The African sports betting market is projected to reach US$3.43 billion by 2029. As demand surges, operators like WSB require stable and trusted technology to maintain market leadership. Runa Walia Desai, Chief Customer Experience Officer at OpenBet, noted that the Cape Town Met served as a defining moment for the partnership. She stated that processing more than three times average daily volumes highlights both the resilience of the technology and the strength of the collaboration.
Warren Tannous, CEO of World Sports Betting, expressed similar confidence in the venture. He emphasized that OpenBet’s modular solution provides the peace of mind needed to execute ambitious growth strategies. The technology allows the operator to significantly expand its sportsbook offering and handle increased engagement levels with ease.
