Police in Mponela, Dowa District, have arrested a Premier Bet employee. Bonface Chande, 35, is accused of using K977,600 of the company’s funds to place personal bets.

The incident occurred on January 20, 2026, at the Chimwaza Trading Centre.

Chande’s manager visited the outlet to check on operations. Upon arrival, the manager found that Chande had switched off the generator.

When questioned, Chande claimed the machine was faulty. However, the manager inspected the equipment and discovered it was working perfectly.

The manager then asked for the cash revenue from the previous two days of business. Chande initially claimed there was no money available.

Eventually, the employee admitted to using the missing K977,600 to play “betting spins.”

Macpatson Msadala, spokesperson for Mponela Police Station, confirmed the arrest.

Chande will appear in court soon to face a charge of theft by servant. The suspect hails from Chabu 3Dluka Village, Senior Chief Mlumbe, in Zomba District.
