Senator Ned Nwoko has called for caution over the Central Gaming Bill currently under debate in the Nigerian Senate. Speaking on the Senate floor during today’s deliberations, he stressed the need for deeper scrutiny before the bill is passed into law.
Senator Nwoko’s main concern lies in the jurisdictional conflicts between federal and state authorities, particularly in the regulation of online gaming.
He cited a recent Supreme Court ruling that invalidated the National Lottery Act of 2005, noting that the judgment has been a driving force behind the proposed legislation.
He warned that rushing the bill could undermine the legal clarity the court sought to establish. Instead, he urged lawmakers to adopt a more thoughtful and inclusive approach to ensure the new framework provides clear, consistent, and enforceable regulations for the gaming industry.
“We must take the time to get this right,” Nwoko emphasized, “so that the new law strengthens governance rather than creating new conflicts.”
The Senate is expected to continue deliberations on the Central Gaming Bill in the coming days.
