The online betting platform SportyBet has revealed that it has taken significant steps to address cybersecurity threats and claims of unpaid winnings in the gaming industry.
According to the statement, SportyBet has collaborated with regulators and law enforcement agencies, as well as increased its investment in technology, to combat cyberattacks. This comes after the company faced allegations of not paying out winnings to its customers.
SportyBet explained that the measures were taken in response to claims regarding 42 accounts that were restricted from further activity. The company stated that these accounts were identified and verified as being simultaneously operated using bot technology by an international cybercrime syndicate.
“It is important to note that all 42 accounts are associated with the exact same foreign IP addresses and that the accounts repeatedly attempted to submit similar or identical illegal automated bets with fake odds that were not published by SportyBet,” the company said in its statement.
The affected accounts have been reported to the National Lottery Regulatory Commission and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, and an ongoing investigation is underway into the accounts and the associated individuals.
SportyBet also revealed that it is considering legal action against the malicious actors and any accomplices.
To strengthen its security protocols, the company said it would implement further measures, deepen its existing user verification processes, and deploy technologies to detect and prevent exploitation of its platform.
SportyBet, which has been operating in Nigeria for over 12 years, operates in multiple countries and is committed to providing a secure and reliable gaming experience for its customers.
