Sunbet has announced it is honored to be the first operator to receive regulatory approval from the Gambling Authority (GA) in Botswana. The company expressed pride in becoming the nation’s first online betting and gaming operator, with a commitment to expanding its presence through a diverse range of online games on a secure and stable platform.

A key condition for the licensing required Sunbet to establish physical stores across the country to complement its online offerings. Site inspections of these stores and tests to measure the safety and consistency of the technology were conducted from November last year until February 2025. Following the GA’s satisfaction with compliance to all necessary conditions, Sunbet officially opened on February 13, 2025.
Motsumi added, “Coupled with our physical stores and our innovative online platform, we intend to rapidly roll out exciting new games from slots and table games to sports betting, crash games, lucky numbers, virtuals and much more. Our innovative and constantly evolving tech platform is unmatched, and we can also offer assurance that Sunbet puts the safety and security of our customers first.”
According to Anthony Leeming, CEO of Sun International, the rise in active Sunbet players has been a significant driver for performance, supported by marketing initiatives, the launch of new games, and ongoing improvements to the player experience. He noted that the company aims to leverage its strong brand and market presence to expand its customer base.
