Former Super Eagles striker Daniel Amokachi has been unveiled as the Pan-African brand ambassador for sports betting company 22Bet. The partnership was announced on Wednesday at the BON Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos.
According to 22Bet, the collaboration will promote African football culture, support grassroots communities, and encourage responsible engagement with sport across the continent.
Speaking after signing the agreement, Amokachi described the appointment as a privilege. The former Everton striker said he was grateful to have been selected despite the many football legends across Africa.
“I am honoured to stand before you today. There are over a million legends out there who could easily be standing where I am today, so I give God the glory for this opportunity.”
Amokachi revealed that discussions with 22Bet began during the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). He said the company’s Pan-African vision was one of the main reasons he accepted the partnership.
The former Nigeria international explained that he had previously worked with agencies but had turned down several offers because he was comfortable with his existing arrangements.
However, he said the opportunity to contribute to African football and communities made the 22Bet partnership different.
Amokachi also highlighted 22Bet’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives as another key factor behind his decision. He said businesses operating in Nigeria and across Africa should contribute to the communities where they operate.
“The more you make, the more you should invest in the communities and the people of the country.”
The former striker said 22Bet’s community-focused approach aligned with his own desire to give back to Africa.
Speaking at the unveiling, 22Bet Country Manager Fikayo Ogunfuye said the partnership was based on a shared vision to promote African football beyond commercial interests.
Ogunfuye described Amokachi as a football icon whose influence continues to inspire new generations across the continent. He said the partnership was designed to create a lasting impact rather than provide short-term brand visibility.
According to Ogunfuye, Amokachi and 22Bet will work together to support football culture, local communities, and responsible participation across Africa. Ogunfuye said football remains one of the strongest forces connecting African communities.
From the streets of Lagos to communities across West, East, and Southern Africa, the sport plays an important role in shaping identity and creating opportunities.
Through the partnership, 22Bet plans to celebrate African football heroes and highlight authentic football stories from across the continent. The company also plans to support young players and grassroots football communities.
22Bet said its investment in football will be accompanied by a focus on responsible participation. The company plans to use Amokachi’s profile and experience to promote positive values around sport while encouraging responsible engagement.

Amokachi, widely known as “The Bull,” enjoyed a successful career at both club and international level. He played for Club Brugge, Everton, and Beşiktaş during his professional career.
At international level, Amokachi was part of Nigeria’s squad that won the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations. Two years later, he was also a member of Nigeria’s Dream Team that won the country’s first Olympic football gold medal at the 1996 Atlanta Games.
Since retiring from professional football, Amokachi has remained active in the sport. He has worked as a coach, football administrator, and television pundit.
His appointment as 22Bet’s Pan-African brand ambassador now adds another role to his long-standing involvement in African football.
