The Law Reform Commission of Tanzania is currently undertaking seven important legal research studies aimed at reviewing laws in various areas, including ethics, gambling, criminal offenses, and legislation that supports the country’s economic growth.

This initiative was announced by the Commission’s Executive Secretary, Mr. George Nandepo, during his visit to the Commission’s pavilion at the 49th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF). While there, Mr. Nandepo highlighted the Commission’s efforts to educate the public about the legal reform process and its responsibilities.

The ongoing research phase follows the successful completion of 13 previous studies, which focused on laws related to investment, agriculture, and other key sectors. These studies were informed by public opinions and recommendations, ensuring that the laws align with the real needs of society.

Mr. Nandepo encouraged Tanzanians to take advantage of this opportunity to submit their views on various laws. Citizens can share their thoughts either by letter or by visiting the Commission’s offices. He emphasized the importance of public participation in shaping laws that effectively address social and economic challenges.

Ms. Zainabu Issa, the Head of the Legal Education Unit at the Commission, noted that public awareness of the law in Tanzania remains low. This underscores the ongoing need to expand legal education through various channels to better inform citizens.

The Law Reform Commission is committed to ensuring that Tanzania’s legal framework evolves to meet current realities. Through inclusive engagement with citizens, institutions, and stakeholders, the Commission aims to build a society grounded in justice, transparency, and sustainable development.
