Telecel Ghana Awards GH¢1 million to First M’ahitti Promo Winner

Telecel Ghana Awards GH¢1 million to First M’ahitti Promo Winner

Telecel Ghana has presented GH¢1 million to Adiza Ibrahim, the first monthly grand prize winner of the Telecel M’ahitti Promo. Adiza, a widowed mother of eight from Prang, a rural community several hours from Ghana’s capital, had received messages about the promotion before eventually opting in after her daughter encouraged her to participate.

She never expected to win, let alone take home one of the promo’s grand prizes. The prize presentation took place in Yeji in the Bono East Region, in the presence of Adiza’s family, community members, and the media. It was the first time a grand prize had been presented within a winner’s community.

Presenting the prize, Aneth Muga, Director of the Consumer Business Unit at Telecel, described Adiza’s story as an inspiring and life-changing one.

“Adiza’s story is an incredible one. It is a life-transforming story, and we are super excited to present the first million in the Telecel M’ahitti Promo to her.”

Muga explained that Telecel launched the promotion in July to reward customers with daily, weekly, and monthly prizes, including three grand prizes designed to transform the lives of the winners. When Adiza received a call informing her that she had won GH¢1 million, her first reaction was disbelief.

She initially thought the call could not be genuine. It took a personal visit from Telecel officials to her community to convince her. The officials traveled to meet Adiza and her family and confirm the news in person. That was when the reality finally sank in: she had become a millionaire.

Adiza’s circumstances made the win particularly significant. For years, she has worked hard to provide for her family, including cooking for children at a school in her community to make ends meet. Raising eight children has presented numerous challenges. At various points, some of her children had to stay out of school because she could not afford to continue paying for their education.

For Adiza, one of her biggest priorities is getting her children back into school and ensuring they have the opportunity to continue their education for as long as they wish. She also plans to establish a business for herself and another for her eldest child, who has completed an apprenticeship.

“This is very good news for my family and me. By God’s grace, because of this win, I can now make sure all my kids go through school successfully. Our lives will change!” she said excitedly.

Adiza said becoming a millionaire was something she had never imagined for herself. She has repeatedly expressed how blessed she feels, particularly because the win came simply from opting into the promotion. The Telecel M’ahitti Promo is one of the major consumer reward campaigns in Ghana’s telecommunications sector.

The promotion rewards 100 customers daily with GH¢100 each, while up to six customers can win GH¢20,000 every week. In addition, two grand prize winners will receive GH¢1 million each in September and October. The promotion is supervised by the National Lottery Authority – Caritas.

All Telecel customers can participate for free by dialing *500#, texting WIN to 500, or activating the promotion through the Telecel Play App. Customers earn points through airtime recharges, bundle purchases, and Telecel Cash deposits of GH¢10 or more. Additional entries are available to customers who use the Telecel Play App and Telecel Cash.

From cooking for schoolchildren to support her family to receiving GH¢1 million that could help put her own children back in school, Adiza’s story highlights how an unexpected opportunity has changed her family’s circumstances.
