The Limpopo Gambling Board (LGB) has stepped up efforts to combat illegal gambling activities in the province following a search and seizure operation at an alleged illegal gambling establishment in Phalaborwa. The operation was carried out on September 22, 2026, with support from the South African Police Service (SAPS).

During the operation, one employee working as a cashier and four gamblers were arrested. The cashier was charged with operating an illegal gambling establishment, while the four gamblers were charged with participating in illegal gambling activities.

The gamblers were each issued a R500 summons and subsequently paid admission-of-guilt fines. Authorities seized R3,210 in cash and 80 computers during the search and seizure operation.

The case involving the employee was placed on the court roll on September 23 and has since been postponed to October 21, 2026. The LGB said its inspectors will continue investigating and prosecuting illegal gambling operators and participants across Limpopo Province.

The Board also warned members of the public about the potential consequences of participating in illegal gambling activities, noting that a criminal record could affect future opportunities in areas such as employment, business and other aspects of life.
